Our Ethos

We possess a profound and abiding appreciation for the rich history and enduring tradition of Chinese tea culture, particularly the intricate practice of Gongfu Cha. Our admiration extends to the growers and cultivators who dedicate their lives to nurturing the sacred tea plant, for we hold nothing but the deepest respect for their artistry and commitment.

The Teahouse at the Edge of the World

The Teahouse does not belong to a place.

It appears where it is needed. It leaves when the work is done.

We are not its owners. We are its caretakers.

Why We Exist

Fox Spirit Tea exists in support of Grass People Tree—the land, the people, and the living traditions of Guizhou, China.

We are honored to walk in direct relationship with their founder, Rui Liu—a storyteller, wisdom-keeper, and native of Guizhou.

Our work is not to interpret.

It is not to reshape.

It is to listen.

To learn.

To carry what is shared with sincerity.

The Path

From Co-Founder Shane:

I have chosen one path.

The living teas of Guizhou.

This is not a statement of exclusivity.

It is a statement of discipline.

This is the tea I know.

The tea I listen to.

The tea I speak to and of.

The tea I share.

Through years of practice, I have learned:

One arrow. One target.

When the mind divides, the path is lost.

The Way We Practice

Before tea is tasted, something else must come first.

Respect

For the people who gather, make, and protect the tea

Connection

To their land, their culture, their lived experience

Reflection

Through stillness, listening, and presence

These are not ideas.

They are actions. Respect requires humility.

Connection requires compassion.

Reflection requires silence.

Without these, there is no practice.

The Nature of Tea

Part of what we share comes from direct experience.

There is no greater teacher than the tea itself.

But direct experience comes last.

First comes respect.

Then connection.

Then reflection.

Only then may practice begin.

From Grass People Tree

(Shared with respect)

We are here to bring teas of exceptional, incomparable quality.

Our work centers around the land that raises us.

We represent ourselves—the tea pickers, makers, vendors, and tea house all in one.

Our teas:

  • Grow wild in primaeval forests (beyond organic)
  • Are crafted in small batches using ancient methods
  • Come from trees aged 300–1,500 years

Tea is not a product.

It is a way of connecting to nature, culture, and living wisdom.

Fox Spirit Tea continues.

The form has changed.

The work has not.
